We got the ferry from Penang to Langkawi and it was a little bit blowy.
The ferry booking from George Town to Langkawi was a little bit of a challenge as our Starling debit card wasn’t accepted online. However, my Halifax credit card worked and luckily it didn’t require an OTP SMS code (like it has before), as that would require swapping SIMs and there was a time limit on the payment page. We discovered that there is no easy way to move money between our Starling accounts either, apart from setting yourself up as a payee.
In the end the ferry for the two of us cost just under £27, which is pretty good value. The hotel in George Town were exceptionally helpful in printing our tickets, which we needed to show at the terminal. The ferry was late arriving but there were power sockets in the departure area so we could do some writing there and on the boat.
We arrived in Langkawi just before tropical storm Pabuk hit and stopped ferries running for a few days. However, the crossing was pretty smooth and comfortable. There is a snack bar and they show films if you’ve got nothing better to do for a few hours.
