That'll Do
You can’t help but notice here that it is now the year of the pig. We were in Saigon just as Tết was ending, although it seems to drag on for a bit after too.
Tết, or Vietnamese New Year, is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture. The word is a shortened form of Tết Nguyên Đán, which is Sino-Vietnamese for “Feast of the First Morning of the First Day”.
It’s effectively the same as lunar / Chinese new year, apart from the rabbit is a cat if it’s that year. It’s quite helpful to be reminded that it’s 2019 and Saigon was quieter too. Otherwise the cut-and-cover subway that they’re building would cause even more havoc.
Chúc mừng năm mới!
